Just Jared: What has been your biggest challenge so far on the show? Jamie Lynn Spears: The number one challenge is the mother’s guilt of saying, ‘I should do things with my kids instead of doing anything else in the world, including dancing.’ And plus, it’s much harder physically and mentally than I ever imagined to learn these routines, much less perform them on live television.
JJ: What’s something new you’ve learned about yourself since you started? DWTSJLS: I’ve learned that I do very well with motivation that isn’t necessarily like I need to work harder. I don’t need someone to tell me I’m doing it right if I’m not. You know, with my kids I always want to say, “You’re doing a great job, honey,” and that’s all well and good, but I feel like with me I need to be more. strict on myself to really get involved in this, which is, you know, it’s weird to think about it that way. But I do think my motivation is different.
JJ: Has there been anything that has really surprised you so far? JLS: I think what surprises me the most is that I will scream, I mean, I have a lot of respect for dancers and all the tastes that I have always had. I had respect for the dancers, but it’s the process and the learning process of how many things happen in your brain when you’re dancing, even if it’s just for a minute. It’s much more difficult. I know a lot of people say that. But it’s like, imagine that running a marathon will also contract every muscle in your body and also make your brain remember what the next step is. There are many things happening.
I never thought it would be so challenging. It’s not just physical. It’s also mental. I thought that dancers can probably do anything in the world they want because the mental and physical coordination is extraordinary.
JJ: Is there a style of dance you are looking forward to practicing? JLS: I’m nervous about all of them. Now that I did tango, I thought it was very strict and very difficult. Then I realized, I was humbled to realize that each of them will have their challenges.
JJ: Are there any styles you’re excited to try? JLS: I think we’ll do cha cha this week and it’s a lot of fun. So I’m looking forward to that. And then, I think there’s one where it’s not really freestyle, but you tell a story with your dancing. I’m looking forward to. And I think that will be able to, and that will allow me to channel many of my emotions and my actions go into that.
JJ: Contemporary dance! JLS: Yes, not freestyle. Sorry, I’m not that versed as a dancer yet.
JJ: Now that you’re done with the first week, has that helped you have more confidence moving forward? JLS: I definitely think the whole process of the whole production of acting in that kind of element was great. Go ahead and get the first one out of the way, because you really can’t put into words what it’s like. And they give you so many rehearsals that you feel good when you get there, but I don’t know if I can tell you if I feel better or worse because when you’re in the moment, it’s like everything. leaves your body. I don’t know. Is that going to happen again? I have no idea. But that’s definitely what happened the first time.
JJ: What do you hope to improve on during the second week? JLS: Have fun and show personality and not be so focused on the steps. I want to follow the steps correctly, but I also need to play it and have fun and do what I know I’m actually good at, you know, my day job as an actor. So I should bring some of that to the dance floor.
JJ: Speaking of week two, what can you say about your “Latin Night” cha cha cha? JLS: It’s definitely a lot more fun and a lot more daring. And I think that’s something that people missed me, but they’ll also be a little surprised to see. [The sass] It’s something I’m really counting on.
JJ: Since you are also a singer and songwriter, has that helped you at all in learning the steps and musical cues? JLS: I actually felt like, well, I’m an actress. I think I know how to play fair. I can turn all this into paper and make it fun. But I didn’t realize how caught up I was going to get in the technique. And learning the technique is, because I get obsessed with making it perfect, I forget to have fun and make a character, which has been my biggest problem the first week. [I] It was like, not only did I enjoy the whole process, but I just focused on the technique. That’s something I need to lean on more, it’s like having fun and enjoying what I’m doing.
JJ: Speaking of which, would you ever dance to one of your own songs, like Jason Mraz and Barry Williams did the first week? JLS: Yes, there have been some conversations about that. Of course, we want to make sure we follow the guidelines when it comes to SAG and anything goes. My only reason for doing this program is to donate to a community that has been a part of my life and my daughters’. And to compensate them during the time they cannot work. So I want to make sure I respect it in all areas. There’s definitely one song in particular that we want to do.
JJ: What has it been like working with Alan as a partner? JLS: It’s been wonderful. I mean, he’s been tough on me, which is good, but he’s a wonderful teacher. He is patient, he pushes me and doesn’t let me… He doesn’t let me get complacent. He wants me to go further and push harder because he wants me to do good. And I think it’s been really wonderful to have someone who believes in you and pushes you to reach your best potential.
JJ: Do you have anything you want to say to those who encourage you? JLS: I just want to thank everyone for voting and also keep voting and hopefully make them proud and give them a good show and power to donate to my community at the same time.
