Career
In 2013, James Ennis started playing basketball. He started his professional basketball career after the Atlanta Hawks selected him in the 2013 NBA draft. He was dealt to the Miami Heat on the same night of the draft. James joined the Heat and participated in the NBA Summer League in 2013. Due to salary cap rules, the Heat could not contact him to play for their NBA Development League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce. He made the decision to play abroad in order to support his family. On 10 August 2013, he joined the Perth Wildcats and scored 25 points in his first game, earning him the Most Valuable Player award. He moved to Puerto Rico and joined the Piratas de Quebradillas, where he played 12 games before joining the NBA.
On July 15, 2014, Ennis signed a multi-year contract with the Miami Heat and participated in the 2021 NBA Summer League. On October 29, 2014, he made his debut for the Miami Heat in a win against the Washington Wizards. On November 10, 2015, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies and assigned to the Iowa Energy of the Grizzlies’ D-League.
