Jameela issued a statement in a post on her Instagram grid that read: “Last night, Hollywood and fashion said the quiet part out loud when so many famous feminists chose to celebrate at the highest level, a man who was publicly cruel to women. . , fat, immigrants and sexual assault survivors. And all the women’s posts and online viewers chose to blithely ignore it.”
She continued: “Suddenly your appetite to find someone’s tweets from when I was 12 is gone. Nobody has perfect morals, least of all me, but Jesus Christ, we had a year to correct course here, and not give the highest possible honor to a known fan… and everyone suddenly decided that we can separate the art from the artist. . when *convenient*. And it is a rule for us and another rule for everyone else. Last night we gave up our right to be taken seriously about anything important.
She added in the post’s caption: “This is not about cancel culture. It’s not even about Karl. It’s about showing just how selective cancel culture is within liberal politics, in the most blatant way yet. It’s about showing why people don’t trust liberals. Because of slippery tactics and double standards like this. And it’s not just Hollywood here, the general public online participated and was fully complicit in erasing the truth last night. They replaced their forks with spoons last night, to lick that shit up… If we keep going like this, don’t be surprised when we lose the next election.”
In the comments section, Jameela also responded to fans asking her if she would have really turned down an invitation to the Met Gala. She replied that she would not have attended, adding: “I talked about all this the day the issue was announced…it is in the public domain. It went viral last October. Jameela has been outspoken about Lagerfeld since his death, and even had a back-and-forth with Cara Delevingne after her death.
