Jalees Sherwani, who was known for his extraordinary writing skills in Bollywood and wrote the lyrics of songs like Humka Peeni Hai and Pandey Ji Whistle from Salman Khan starrer Dabangg, died on 1 August 2018. He was over 65 years old and his demise is definitely a huge loss for Bollywood. Jalees was born on 29 December in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh. He spent his childhood in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh and completed his schooling from the same city. He joined Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) for graduation in 1965 and after completion of graduation, he started writing poems, dialogues and songs.

Jalees was fond of reading and writing since his school days. When he was very young he started writing on his own. He started his screenwriter career in Bollywood with the film ‘Pratighat’ released in 1987. Later, he wrote excellently for many films and left his mark in Bollywood. He came into limelight after writing for films like Tumko Na Bhool Payenge Hum, Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, Kanwarlal, Ek Tha Raja, Mafia and Sangram. He is mainly known for writing dialogues and songs for Salman Khan’s films. He was also the President of ‘Film Writers Association’ for some years. Some other films for which he worked include Partner, Hello Brothers, Loafer, Baaghi, Chashme Baddoor, Paying Guest, Aakrosh and Mai Aur Mrs. Khanna.

Death

According to media reports, Jalees Sherwani was suffering from some health complications for the last two weeks and was in the hospital. According to media reports, he died of a heart attack on 1 August 2018. His mortal remains were sent to his residence in Andheri West, Mumbai.
