Controversy
MP Mahua Moitra’s defamation allegation
In October 2023, Jai Ananth Dehadrai came into limelight when BJP’s Lok Sabha member Nishikant Dubey alleged that Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra had taken bribe from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in return for raising questions in Parliament. Dubey cited a letter from Jai Ananth Dehadrai which contained evidence of exchange of cash and gifts between Moitra and Hiranandani.
Mahua Moitra then issued a legal notice to Nishikant Dubey and Jai Ananth Dehadrai for defaming them by claiming that they had taken bribes to raise questions in Parliament. According to the legal notice, Moitra and Dehadrai were once close friends, but they had a falling out due to which Dehadrai allegedly sent several objectionable, malicious and lewd messages to Moitra. Besides this, he was also accused of trespassing into her official residence and stealing Moitra’s personal belongings including her dog. Due to his repeated crimes, Moitra decides to file a police complaint against Jai Ananth Dehadrai. The notice claimed that Dehadrai attempted to persuade journalists to publish false stories about Moitra, but failed due to lack of evidence. Subsequently, the notice said Dehadrai contacted the BJP, including Dubey, who spread allegations of bribery without any prior investigation. The notice further alleged that Dubey and Dehadrai were involved in leaking private photographs of Moitra and presenting them out of context.
