J. Harrison Ghee continues to make history in the Tony Awards 2023!
The 33-year-old actor won Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical on Sunday night (June 11) at the United Palace Theater in New York City’s Washington Heights.
J. Harrison collected the award for his portrayal of Jerry/Daphne in the musical. some like it hot. The win made them not only the second openly non-binary artist to win a Tony for acting, but the second of the night!
Earlier that night, Alex Newell became the first.

“My mother raised me to understand that the gifts God gave me were not about me,” Ghee said in accepting the award. “Use them to be effective in the world. For every trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming human being out there who was told they couldn’t be, couldn’t be seen, this is for you. ‘Some like it spicy’ and that’s not bad.”
