In an interview, when asked about playing the role of a father in the Bollywood film Janhit Mein Jaari, Ishtiaq revealed that he was initially unsure about taking up the role, but later accepted the offer and said ,

I am playing the character of Nushrat Bharucha’s father who has a lingerie business. When I was offered this role, I thought there was some misunderstanding about how I would look like her father, but then director Jai Basanthu and writer Raaj Shandilya explained the character graph to me. Also, casting director Parag said that I am fit for this role, so I started preparing for it.

Ishtiaq Khan wanted to become an actor since childhood. During his school days, he participated in many theater plays and drama competitions. Ishtiaq performed in a few plays for the theater group Anubhishna Theater Group in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. After graduating from the National School of Drama, he moved to Mumbai to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. In 1989, he joined the Indian People’s Theater Association (IPTA), a theater group in Juhu, Mumbai. Ishtiaq presented his first street play Gili Gili Fu, directed by Devesh Mishra. His first stage show was Ek Tha Gadha aka Aladad Khan, directed by Satish Sharma.
