It’s hard to find a harsher critic of the current President of the United States, Joe Biden, than Dan Bongino. To get an idea of Bongino’s perception of President Biden, here’s a tweet he posted in mid-September 2021: “Today is September 16, 2021 and Joe Biden is the worst president in American history.”
The former secret service officer confessed to employing a tactic known as takeover of liberties, a tactic used by some conservatives to evoke emotional responses from liberals. A lot of what Dan is has to do with his upbringing. This piece will look at his upbringing and his life with his wife, Paula Andrea.

Dan was raised by an abusive stepfather after his parents divorced.
Bongino was born on December 4, 1974 in Queens, New York. After his parents divorced, Dan’s mom married a 6’5”, 300lb heavyweight boxer who was abusive towards Dan and his younger brother Joe. Child Services came to her house regularly, but they didn’t offer much help to Dan and Joe.
When Dan was 15 years old, he took his younger brother and they moved out of their mother’s house. His biological father helped with housing and education expenses.
Dan’s abusive stepfather was so afraid of the police that he inspired Bongino to join the police force. Bongino spoke with Naples Daily News about an encounter his stepfather had with a policewoman:
“I’ll never forget this: This little policewoman, she’s like 5’1” and a tall Italian guy with a mustache shows up, and this policewoman just tells him to go away. And I remember saying, ‘I have to do this job. This is the best job of all. You have the opportunity to change people’s lives just like that. And that’s why I became a policeman.”

Dan and his wife Paula met on a blind date set up by their friends at a New York restaurant called Sullivan’s. Bongino fell in love with the beauty of Paula and for him it was love at first sight. Two weeks after the couple’s first date, the 9/11 attacks occurred and Dan panicked when he was unable to reach Paula at her workplace. Fortunately, when the attack occurred, Paula was in Nevada visiting her mother.
As the couple’s relationship grew, Dan decided to propose to her. Paula told him Voice of Severna Park that Dan’s marriage proposal at the restaurant where they had their first date didn’t take her by surprise:
“I said ‘yes’ and I was very emotional. Although I realized when he picked me up at the train station that day something was up. He was a Secret Service agent, but I could always read him like a book.”
Bongino and Laura have a long and prosperous marriage, but Dan admits that it hasn’t always been easy. “I had a broken family. My marriage has been difficult,” Dan said. Naples Daily News. “Listen, there’s nothing wrong with every now and then people saying, ‘How’s your marriage going?’ saying, ‘You know, it’s hard. Marriage is hard work.’”

Dan began dreaming of becoming a politician after his first daughter, Isabel, was born in 2004. A month shy of his 11th birthday as a Secret Service agent, Bongino left the White House to join politics. The same day, Dan’s wife informed him that she was pregnant with the couple’s second child, Amelia.
bongino said Voice of Servana Park who became a politician so he could help fix his children’s finances:
“I have spent my whole life studying macroeconomics and the writing is on the wall. An entire generation will be left with the bag if we don’t move forward in November.”
Dan has lost three elections since he became a politician, but he hopes his luck will change soon. He thrived in the high-pressure environment of the White House and believes his experience as a Secret Service agent will be good in the political world. He said Stuart Magazine:
“When you’re in your 20s and reporting foreign threats to senior White House staff, the formalities quickly fade away. You learn to speak in bullet points. You learn not to spin people’s wheels, or they’ll shut you down.”

Contrary to popular belief, Dan did not move to Florida for political reasons. Instead, he moved so his wife could live closer to his mother. Dan said Naples Daily News that he had no intention of running for a congressional seat until the opportunity suddenly presented itself. He said:
“In fact, I wasn’t interested in running at all. I have a great life, I enjoy it. Life is very good to me. My book sold well. Everything was going great. But, this seat opened unexpectedly.”
Dan and his family enjoy life in Florida: the weather is great, the food is great, and Dan enjoys the political climate. The only downside is that the restaurants close before Dan and Paula’s in New York. Dan said Stuart Magazine:
“The only downside to Martin County is that we have very long and committed wedding nights and dates. We go to local restaurants and they close very early. We are New Yorkers. You can get a good sandwich, you can get a good pizza. I love the weather, I’m a warm weather guy. And I like that it’s conservative here because I’m a conservative guy.”
Bongino beat cancer following his throat cancer diagnosis in October 2020
In late September 2020, Dan Bongino announced that doctors had found a three-inch tumor in his throat. A further evaluation revealed that he needed surgery, but the doctors were hopeful that what he had was treatable.
Through a later update, Dan claimed that the surgery removed all of the tumor, but that he probably had lymphoma. As he had predicted, the doctors gave a diagnosis of Hodgkin lymphoma.
Dan began treatment immediately, and in July 2021, he announced that he was cancer-free. However, he stated that the treatment was nothing if not difficult.
He said the diagnosis surprised him because he doesn’t smoke or do drugs, and only drinks a little. He, too, had been in top physical condition before the diagnosis. After the doctors confirmed the worst, Bongino broke down in tears on a plane, thinking that she had little time left to be with his family.
The worst part of chemotherapy for Bongino was the persistent hiccups, which kept her from resting well for many nights. He said SurvivorNet:
“I was choking, because I couldn’t sleep because of these damn chemo hiccups. My wife, I was like a child, she would pat my back like she was burping a child and we would stay up until two or three in the morning. She was like, ‘I can’t watch you go through this.
Dan religiously recorded his morning show even when he was feeling his worst. During his treatment he had seen people with weeks to live, which made him understand that, although he was sick, he was in much better condition than many others. He continued:
“When you think, ‘Nobody’s got it worse than me,’ I promise you, I can probably go find 1,000 people who have it worse than you. Self pity? That’s all bullshit. Oh really. Toughen. I’m not lecturing anyone else, I’m telling you how I get over it.”
The experience taught Bongino to treasure every moment he has on earth. “God gave me the gift of discovering that we all have an expiration date,” he said. “Every minute of your life is a gift.”
