India de Beaufort on the past, present and future of the Night Court
Screen Rant: This program is everything I ever wanted but couldn’t imagine. I can’t imagine myself watching new episodes, it feels like a new episode of the same show I’ve loved for years. Even with an almost entirely new cast, the original show is very authentic and your character is a big part of it.
India de Beaufort: So cute, I’m glad you liked it!
Rant screen: I AM! I live in New York City. This is where everything is gathered, and night stall is a show that deals with these eccentricities and neuroses in an amusing, yet mundane way. Is your character like, shall we say, caffeinated?
India de Beaufort: She is very nervous!
Screen Rant: Perfect. Tell me how to get your character through the Night Court filter.
India de Beaufort: I like “The filter of the night court”. I love it! I have to tell everyone! Dan Rubin, Melissa Rauch and Winston Rauch had the idea for the character. I think we represent a lot of different personalities on the show, so everyone can see a little bit of themselves. Olivia is an ambitious, bubbly, coffee-loving young woman who is very sociable and has emotional and social difficulties. So it’s fascinating because she’s really good at what she does, but she can’t do anything because she’s terrible at the “human” part.
People usually like the people they’re working with, sometimes… That’s one of the biggest challenges we faced with the character Olivia, which is that such people can be very unlikable. . So how do you get someone who always tries to get ahead, always wants to be first in line, always wants to raise his hand to answer questions and is the teacher’s favorite student, how do you get objects and make them approachable and likable. So I think it’s about understanding her vulnerability and how she struggles to find her place in society and how she feels unloved.
Basically, she’s looking for a community that accepts her. It goes with everything you say about New York. I was just in New York last week and you get the feeling that everyone is going to be who they are and nobody blinks. Therefore, the city is full of people expressing themselves in the most beautiful way, making every day so charming. I think the Night Court is the epitome of that.
Screen Rant: How was your casting, do you feel like a freshman at school? Do they bully you or something?
India de Beaufort: (laughs) I wasn’t hacked! But yes, I was more aware of the fact that these actors worked together. Not only did they film an episode of a TV show together, but they also had experience filming shows together. This is a big broblem! Along the way, a lot happens behind the scenes.
To me, it felt like I stepped into the golden egg-laying hen without earning because the show was picked up. I don’t have to fight to be a pilot. I could just walk in and say, “What’s going on, what are we doing?” I wanted to respect that, so I leaned back and examined and tried to reflect what was shown to me. Everyone was very hospitable and glad to have me there. Within two minutes, I forgot I had never been there.
Screen Rant: You have a special place in the cast. You’re a prosecutor, Dan Fielding’s old job. Did you learn how to create an accusation scene from John Larroquette or are you comfortable putting your own stamp on iconic nighttime courtroom prosecutors scenes with eccentric defendants and all are they both from the original movie?
India de Beaufort: I think John is very respected as an actor and he would never give advice without being asked. I would love to be a walking sponge. If I could absorb any bit of John Larroquette into my life, I would be delighted. I can cling to him more than he wants! (laughs) I would say, “John, give me something!” “John! What can I do?” “John, John, John!”
All I wanted him to do was teach me. On a rare occasion, he likes to give me a small gift. I think he liked that I was so open-minded and willing to learn from him. We have a lovely friendship.
Screen Rant: This sounds like a dream!
India de Beaufort: It’s an interesting way to take on the role of Dan Fielding as far as prosecutors are concerned. The most complicated part for me was that people thought I was going to be like Markie Post. They look at the structure of the show and say, “Men, women, they’re opposites, and Olivia and Markie Post are completely different. So when I say, “Actually, I should be Dan Fielding, or that sort of thing. everybody. “I have the best view in the courtroom because I can watch John do what John does more closely than anyone.
Screen Rant: Christine (Markie Post’s character) has her own quirks, but unlike Oliva. It’s a great ensemble that feels very unique. You nailed it with this cast and their chemistry.
India de Beaufort: Oh great, you make me happy!
Screen Rant: We’ve seen you and Gurgs team up to find some office space. We see you pairing up with Neil, pretending to be a couple to get attention. And, of course, you and Judge Stone on board. Do you find yourself working different muscles depending on who you share the scene with, or does it all come from understanding the characters and trusting the script?
India de Beaufort: I think it has everything. When we are all uniquely paired, something is bound to happen. Olivia and Gurgs, the combination of the two of them, for me, I absolutely love it. Their personalities are very different, but they have some similarities. The upcoming episode is about wedding dresses and has some Gurgs scenes that I love and I hope you enjoy it as much as you enjoyed the previous episodes.
Screen Rant: When you turn off her crock pot, I’m just, it’s a joke, but it’s also a great moment.
India de Beaufort: (laughs) I wish there were more of these from Olivia! I hope we get to meet her… This season, we know she’s having a hard time connecting with people, and we’re starting to see glimmers of the possibility that she might be a good fit. here. I want to go to a place where Olivia now knows she really belongs, and begin to make the Night Court her home, and be able to defend and defend the Night Court from that perspective. It will be interesting to watch her journey through the seasons…and more scenes with Dan so I can steal and learn more from John Larroquette! That again!
Screen Rant: Is there a scary element that you have to overcome? He was a six foot four silver fox, a man with a large beard…
India de Beaufort: John, for me, I don’t see him as a threat. I just love him. We ate dinner together, we went out together, we were as close as ever. He ended up spending time with my family. I just love him. I love him. I am grateful that he has been a part of my life, he really taught me a lot of things. I can’t think of anything I’d rather do than listen to him tell me stories all day long.
Screen Rant: Have you seen the original night stall When you were a child, or in the organization?
India de Beaufort: No, I grew up in England, we didn’t! I didn’t see it. I know it. In fact, Kapil and I are friends and we did another show together. I was in Vancouver shooting various projects with Kapil, ironically, at the same time, a year before he got the job. I thought, “Night court, great, what a job!”
But when I auditioned, I thought, I’d better watch the show to know what I’m auditioning for! That’s when I started watching it. During the show, I was obsessed. Sometimes I put it on my phone in the car and listen to it while driving, to hear the rhythm and rhythm of the music. Very good! I watched John Larroquette, then I went to work and asked him about the episode I just watched.

India de Beaufort: I have to say, “How did it feel when Teri Hatcher was there and opened her coat?” Great!

Watching the show, for me, feels like working with him, it’s an honor for us to know the path we are on so that he is not alone. I think it’s definitely going to be a challenge for him, but I know he’s happy to be back.
