‘I just hated her’: John Stamos opens up about his divorce from Rebecca Romijin

John Stamos married Rebecca Romijn in 1998, the same year he launched his film career. Immediately, tensions began to rise between them.

Stamos, now 60, shares a sober perspective on his 2004 divorce ahead of his upcoming memoir.

During an interview with People, Stamos got emotional while promoting his newly released book, “If You Had Told Me.” In it, Stamos talks about the heartbreak he experienced during his first marriage.

“My first marriage was devastating for me,” Stamos said. “I was devastated too for too long. I mean, one year, okay, okay. But it continued [for] years and years”.

Where did it all start?

While the actor had enjoyed the Hollywood spotlight since the release of Full house in ABC in 1987, since then he has mainly limited himself to television roles. He reportedly crossed paths with Romijn when she was a Victoria’s Secret model in 1994. They married four years later, but Stamos began blaming Romijn for everything.

“In my mind back then, she was the devil and I just hated her,” Stamos said. People. “I couldn’t believe how much I hated her and it ruined my life.”

Stamos says the memoir is a reminder of how to accept the past, no matter how difficult it is.

“If I hadn’t gone through all those things, all the headaches, I wouldn’t be who I am today,” he adds.
