CEO Meta has finally launched Twitter Rival-Threads, an app for Instagram. Mark Zuckerberg announced the new app with a post in his story.

It was launched on July 6, 2023 and the platform is receiving a lot of positive feedback. This new platform comes after Twitter limited the reading of tweets. It’s also a response to building heat between the two social media owners.
Before the launch, Mark Zuckerberg created some hype. He published a “cheat code” on Instagram that allows users to see a special tab when searching for “topics”. The user will be prompted for a red highlighted box that says Get one and after clicking on it the user will see the tag.

The tag will contain the user’s name and the time he requested the query. The tab will also have a link below to download the Themes app.
Mark Zuckerberg’s launch of the Threads app can be seen as his response to Elon Musk’s growing influence in the social media space. Zuckerberg tweeted an image of the popular Spider-Man meme pointing at each other, seemingly claiming that the introduction of Threads was a rivalry with Twitter.

Within 7 hours, Threads received a huge response and 10 million registered users. The number was confirmed by Mark Zuckerberg on his official Threads account.

The announcement was then followed by Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, who published a column on his Instagram account saying that “Threads are for public discussion. We’re hoping to bring some of the things we’ve done to Instagram photos and videos to Text Threads.”
“We’re bringing a lot of great tools from Instagram to Threads. Things like Hidden Words and Restrictions, which allow you to shape the experience into something a little more friendly,” he added.
The Themes app was definitely rushed because it lacked basic features like the ability to search for hashtags. In response to a question about the possibility of adding hashtag searches in the future, Adam Mosseri said: “Yes, a lot of the basics are still missing.”
At first glance, the platform looks quite similar to Twitter. It is basic and allows users to share their thoughts in words and pictures. Users can attach media and control who can reply to their threads.
How to use Instagram themes?
It is important to note that the platform does not have any web interface, so users can only use the platform on their smartphones.
The company may roll it out on the web later, but there are no plans for now. In an answer to a user on Thread, Adam Mosseri stated “Preferably mobile apps, but we work on www.”
To use Instagram Themes, users must follow these steps:
- Download the app from the App Store or Google Play Store. The official name of the app is “Themes, Instagram app” with a black logo.
- After installing the application will ask the user to log in with their Instagram account.
- The app will ask you to customize your profile. You can skip this step by clicking “Next” or clicking the “Import from Instagram” option to import profile information from Instagram.
- After completing their profile, users will be prompted to choose whether they want to keep their Topics profile public or private.
- Choose whether you want to follow all the accounts that you follow on Instagram. You can also skip this step and follow new people later.
- The Themes app will log in and show you text posts from various users. Unlike Twitter, which has separate “For You” and “Following” tabs, Instagram Threads has a single page that displays both types of content.
How to start a thread?
- Open the Themes app.
- Tap the New Message button in the middle.
- Enter your message in the text field.
- Click the Publish button.
- The platform allows a 500 character limit for text and videos that can be up to 5 minutes long.
In a nutshell, Threads is still a relatively new app, but it has the potential to become a mainstream in the social media landscape. The app’s focus on text-based communication makes it suitable for tracking the rivalry between Mark and Musk.
