Apple’s AirPods Pro have removable silicone eartips designed to create a seal in the wearer’s ear canal, but how can users ensure their earbuds provide the best seal? maybe in the ear? Apple has taken the guesswork out of it with the Ear Tip Fit Test, a software tool that uses the AirPods’ sensors to determine that. Creating a good seal is important because AirPods Pro have noise cancellation features, including Transparency Mode and Adaptive Transparency Mode. Because AirPods measure noise levels in and out of the wearer’s ears, the sealing ring helps the noise cancellation feature to work properly.
Apple’s second-generation AirPods come with four sizes of silicone earplugs – extra-small, small, and large. However, the first generation models only include small and large sizes. In both generations, the AirPods Pro come with the mid-sized earbuds pre-installed out of the box. Finding the right fit starts with figuring out which size fits your ears best. Then put AirPods Pro in your ear and connect to your iPhone or iPad. Ear Tip Fit Test requires iOS 13.2, so older or outdated devices may not be able to use this feature.
How to check and replace earplugs
Once the AirPods are connected and in your ear, navigate to the AirPods settings menu on your iPhone or iPad. On iOS 16 and later, AirPods settings appear in the main menu directly below the user’s Apple ID settings. On earlier iOS versions, the AirPods settings are located in the device’s Bluetooth settings. After entering the AirPods settings menu, tap “Check the tightness of the ear tips’ to start testing.
click blue’Play’ to begin the test once the AirPods are comfortably in your ear. Apple says testing should be done in a quiet environment for best results. The user will hear a short music selection while the test is in progress. Then they get the result – either green’chop’ The result is still yellow’Adjust or try a different earplug read. Users who get the final result should try again before resizing to find the right size.
To choose the right earplugs—especially after unboxing the AirPods Pro— peel off the silicone edge of the earcups to reveal the embossed size markings. Firmly pull the earpad away from the bottom of the earpad, then align the oval connector and press firmly in to insert the new earpad. Apple reminds users that if the shape of the ear canal is different on each side, they may need different sized ear tips for the left and right ear. Finding the right earplugs for your AirPods Pro can be difficult, but testing the fit will give you a real sense of how well the earplugs fit.
