Houston Texans star wide receiver Tank Dell was one of the NFL’s breakout stars in 2024. But with his sights set on a successful sophomore campaign, Dell found himself in a scary situation on April 27.
A stray bullet hit the Texans star in the middle of an altercation outside a Florida nightclub. Fortunately, the star receiver did not suffer any life-threatening injuries. He, too, is expected to make a full recovery.
Texans WR’s Dell tank hit by stray bullet
“Dell was released from the hospital on Sunday and is expected to make a full recovery,” KPRC 2 Houston Texans reporter Aaron Wilson wrote.
“Dell was not involved in the altercation at Cabana Live and was caught in the crossfire.”
But the story becomes even more interesting. The alleged shooter is just a teenager. Florida police have already arrested the 16-year-old boy.
“Florida police announced that a 16-year-old suspect has been taken into custody following the incident in which 10 people, including Dell, a former University of Houston standout, suffered non-life-threatening injuries,” Wilson added.
Texans release statement after incident
Dell was one of the best players in the NFL last season. He was also a big reason the Texans made the playoffs. He had 47 receptions, 709 yards and 7 touchdowns on the year. Following the shooting, the team issued a statement about Dell.
“We have been informed that Tank Dell was the victim of a shooting in Sanford, Florida, last night,” the team said in a statement.
As far as his health goes, they described Dell’s injuries as a “minor injury” and said their star receiver is in “good spirits” following the shooting.
“He suffered a minor injury but has been released from hospital and is in good spirits,” the team added.
“We are in contact with him and his family and will provide further updates when appropriate, but we ask that you respect their privacy at this time. “Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in the incident.”
Fortunately for Dell, it appears to have avoided what could have ended up being a major catastrophe. NFL training camps open in August. So he will have plenty of time to recover.
