Heartstopper Star Reveals His Ideal Nick & Charlie Season 2 Storyline

Heartstopper star Kit Connor has shared his ideal storyline for season 2, stating that he hopes to see Nick and Charlie’s relationship grow. Connor plays the Truman Grammar School star rugby player Nick Nelson in the Netflix coming-of-age romantic drama series. The series is based on Alice Oseman’s webcomic and graphic novel series first published in 2016.

Heartstopper follows Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson, who develop feelings for one another after Nick is sat next to Charlie in class. Charlie, who was outed a year prior and subsequently bullied, soon develops a crush on Nick despite his friend’s doubts about the rugby player’s sexuality. However, after spending time together, the pair share a kiss at a party, leading to them becoming a couple as Nick discovers that he is bisexual. The series was renewed for a second and third season after being met with critical praise and high viewership upon its debut on April 22, 2022, and Connor has revealed what he hopes is in store for Nick and Charlie.

As reported by Digital Spy, Connor shared his hopes for season 2’s possible storylines during an interview with the Radio Times podcast. While the actor has no insight into the future seasons’ stories, Connor hopes to see Nick and Charlie’s relationship grow stronger after the first season focused on introducing the characters and the beginning of their relationship.  Connor stated that it was not only a story that he would be happy to act in, but one that he would hope to see himself, as Nick and Charlie’s relationship blossoms. Check out Connor’s full response below.

“But in terms of, I suppose what I’d like to see for Nick, I think just the strengthening Nick and Charlie’s relationship.

In season one, we very much see the young love and the beginnings of their relationship. And I think that it would be lovely, you know – not just to act – also just to see, as well, their relationship just, sort of, get stronger and blossom.”

Nick’s storyline in season one saw him realize his true feelings towards Charlie, stand up to his friend’s bullying, as well as come out as bisexual to his mother, portrayed by Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman. In an interview alongside Oseman, series producer Patrick Walters shared the story behind Colman’s casting, admitting that the actress’ involvement was an ambitious idea during the series’ development. Walters revealed that he and Oseman had hoped to cast Colman, but felt that she wouldn’t be interested. However, after sending Colman part of the series script, the star immediately agreed, much to Walters and Coleman’s disbelief.

With an incredibly strong debut and the confidence in Netflix’s confidence in the series – as evidenced by season 3 having already been ordered – there is a lot of anticipation for future installments of Heartstopper. The series has already gathered a strong fanbase dedicated to seeing where Oseman’s story will go next, as well as seeing other nods and cameos to the series’ lore, like Oseman’s own cameo in the series finale. Nick and Charlie’s story was widely praised for how it explored each character, and even the show’s star is invested to see how the couple will handle any further challenges going forward.
