‘Haunted Mansion’ Director Justin Simien Exits Disney’s ‘Lando’ Series, Donald Glover to Write the Show with His Brother

Donald Glover played the role of Lando Calrissian in the 2018 Star Wars prequel movie Solo and now he’s set to write a Disney+ limited series about the character.

The 39-year-old actor is set to reprise the role in the series and he’s going to co-write it with his brother Stephen Glover.

It was previously announced that Dear White People creator and Haunted Mansion director Justin Simien would develop the show. He reportedly exited the series before the Glovers signed on. It’s being reported that they were attached before the Writers Strike began in May.

The timing of the announcement is interesting.

Justin is the director of Disney’s new movie Haunted Mansion, which hits theaters this weekend. The film has not been well received and it currently has a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

A new interview was just published in which Justin expressed uncertainty about the project’s future.

“The last thing I was told was that they loved it but needed to put a pin in it until they could figure out everybody’s availability,” he told THR. “I haven’t investigated further, but I’m not an idiot. I’m not alone in that experience. But I can’t help but wonder, ‘Am I too Black? Am I too queer? And people just don’t want to say that?’ Because it seems like I develop things with these companies and they just never happen for reasons unknown.”
