Halle Bailey got down to business to play Ariel in The Little Mermaid.
For the 23-year-old actress, that meant learning from actual synchronized swimmers (and maybe a professional mermaid) about how to swim in a mermaid tail.
However, it turns out that it might not have been necessary.

While talking to The Wrap, Halle says that she spent the months before going to London learning from the swimmers.
“The process of working with the [mermaid] cola was unforgettable,” she says. “I remember before I went to London I had this beautiful training session with these amazing synchronized swimmers who came to my house every Sunday.”
Halle learned to wear the tail with ease, however when she got to London she didn’t actually end up wearing one.
“When I got on set, there was a lot on the blue screen where I didn’t have to use the glue. [so] the doubles team just put my two legs together [and] in the post[-production] They put the tail on it, ”he revealed.
Apparently the only scenes that weren’t a CGI mermaid tail were the ones where Ariel is on the shore.
