Helena Hutchins was a Ukrainian cinematographer who worked in American films. On October 21, 2021, while shooting the Hollywood film ‘Rust’, American actor Alec Baldwin discharged a prop gun, injuring the film’s director Joel Sooz and killing Halina Hutchins.

Helena Hutchins was born in 1979 (aged 42 at death) in Gorodets, Zhytomyr, Ukraine. He was raised on a Soviet military base in the Arctic Circle. He earned a bachelor’s degree in International Journalism from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine. He then attended the American Film Institute Conservatory (AFI) Conservatory, US in 2015 and pursued a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Cinematography.

She then moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a cinematographer. Initially, he worked as a production assistant and grip-electric for various short films. American cinematographer Robert Primes recommended him to study filmmaking at the American Film Institute (AFI) Conservatory, US. During his post-graduation at AFI, he worked on the thesis topic ‘Hidden’, which was showcased at ‘Camerimage’, the International Film Festival of Cinematography Arts. He then worked as director of photography at the International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600) in Los Angeles, California. She then joined Innovative Artists, New York as director of photography. Helena Hutchins worked as a cinematographer in Hollywood films like ‘Darlin’ (2019), ‘Archenemy’ (2020) and ‘Blindfire’ (2020).
He has also worked as a cinematographer on the BET+ original series English TV series ‘A Love Tale: The Series’ (2019). In 2021, she was shooting for the English film ‘Rust’ which proved to be her last film.
Death
On October 21, 2021, during the production of the English film ‘Rust’ in Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States, he was shot with a prop gun fired by American actor Alec Baldwin, and American film director Joel Souza was seriously injured. Was seriously injured. Injured by bullet. Helena and Joel were immediately taken to the hospital. Joel was being treated at a nearby hospital, but Helyna was declared dead on arrival.
