Gurmeet Singh Khudian is an Indian politician, best known for defeating SAD patriarch and five-time Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal from his stronghold Lambi constituency in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.

Gurmeet Singh Khudian was born on Sunday, 30 September 1962 (age 60 years; as in 2022) in Village. And PO Khudian, Gulab Singh, Tehsil-Muktsar, Punjab. He did his schooling in a government school. High School, Khudian Gulab Singh, PSEB. For higher education he joined DAV College, Malout. His affidavit filed with the Election Commission of India states that he earns from farming.

In 2017, he planned to contest the Punjab Assembly elections from Lambi constituency; However, Captain Amarinder Singh decided to contest the elections at the last moment. He was given the opportunity to file nomination for covering candidate. During the Congress government in Punjab, he became a strong contender for the post of Chairman.

Even after working for more than 2 decades in Lambi constituency, he was not given a ticket from the party. He, along with some of his loyal colleagues, announced on 26 July 2021 that they were leaving the Congress Party because the party had ignored them for a long time. On the same day he joined the Aam Aadmi Party.

Later in an interview he said,
We were feeling neglected for a long time, hence took this step. Even after contesting the assembly elections from Lambi in 2017, Captain Amarinder Singh did not come here even once. No one listened to our problems.
He was declared the candidate from Assembly constituency number 83, Lambi, which is classified as a rural seat, in the AAP second list in November. He won the seat in his first attempt at the election with a total of 66,313 votes. He defeated SAD patriarch and five-time former CM Prakash Singh Badal by a huge margin of 11,396 votes, with Badal coming second with a total of 54,917 votes. Key players from Lambi constituency were Jagpal Singh Abulkhurana (Congress), Gurmeet Singh Khudian (Aam Aadmi Party), Prakash Singh Badal (Shiromani Akali Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party alliance), and Rakesh Dhingra (BJP with former CM Captain Amarinder alliance) Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress Party).
After his successful victory by a huge margin he said,
This is the victory of the people. The youth have brought a new revolution. “From day one, people walked with me and supported me.”
He added,
They have been playing fixed matches for so many years and elections have been held for the first time. Kejriwalji gave me ticket from Lambi because he knew that I could compete with the Badals.
While celebrating his landslide victory with his family and friends in Dana Mandi, in an interview he was asked about his opponents, to which he replied,
I don’t even want to remember Amarinder Singh, who believed in playing fixed matches and now lost by 13,000 votes. Let’s talk about today and now. This victory belongs to the people of Lambi, who thought of change and had the courage to defeat Senior Badal. Badal ji had good fortune, he was the Chief Minister of Punjab five times. I am a public servant and believe in clean politics. I believe that now Akal Purukh has also blessed me.”
On 31 May 2023, in a cabinet reshuffle, he was inducted into the Bhagwant Mann cabinet as the Agriculture Minister of Punjab.

- Ahead of voting in Lambi, AAP CM candidate Bhagwant Singh Mann visited the constituency and campaigned with Gurmeet Singh. He said that despite this, the Khudiyan family always stands with the people of Punjab and this time the people of Lambi will teach a lesson to the Badal family.

- Just a day after taking oath as MP, Gurmeet’s father Jathedar Jagdev Singh Khuddiyan went missing from his house. About 6 days later, his body was fished out from the nearby Rajasthan Feeder Canal. The police called it a case of suicide; However, the injuries found on Khudian’s intestines were antemortem and capable of causing death, and it was revealed that he was not suffering from depression.
