Gundam Evolution launched with twelve Mobile Suit units ready to play, where five unlockable Units and hundreds of cosmetic items can be obtained using Capital Points. The key to getting these things, from Units to weapon skins and accessories, is through the game’s free currency, Capital Points, and its premium currency, EVO Coins. There is a third currency, Material Points, which is indirectly obtained and tied into Gundam Evolution’s loot box system.
Like many live service games, such as Team Fortress 2, Gundam Evolution has a Season Pass and a loot box system, both of which can be purchased with real-world money through EVO Coins. The Season Pass gives incremental rewards to players for playing the game and completing challenges, while the loot boxes, called Supply Pods, reward several random cosmetic items. Duplicate items from Supply Pods are converted into Material Points and can be used to purchase specific cosmetic items.
Unlike some other live service games, Gundam Evolution‘s five locked Units, Marasai [UC], Gundam Exia, Mahiroo, Zaku II [Melee], and Unicorn Gundam, are not tied to the Supply Pod or Material Point system and can only be directly purchased for either 990 EVO Coins or 1,980 Capital Points. So for those who don’t want to spend real money in Gundam Evolution, the only real option is to earn enough Capital Points.
How To Get Capital Points in Gundam Evolution
First, to get Capital, players should focus on the Beginner Challenges offered to Gundam Evolution’s new players. These are small and specific things to do in-game that can be viewed through the Challenge banner. Each of these missions rewards small amounts of Capital Points once completed. Then there is the free version of the Season Pass, which has payouts of 1,000 Capital Points for Tier 18 and Tier 58. But both the Beginner Challenges and the Season Pass’s progression is locked behind daily and weekly progress, limiting how much players can grind at any one time.
How To Unlock Units With EVO Coins in Gundam Evolution
Alternatively, there is the option of buying Units with EVO Coins if players are inclined. Gundam Evolution’s in-game exchange rate for EVO Coins ranges from 1,000EVO for $9.99 USD to 12,000 EVO for $99.99 USD. As stated above, each Unit can be bought separately for 990 EVO Coins. Alternatively, the Item Pack “DX Edition” can be purchased for 4,180 EVO Coins. The pack grants access to the locked units and a legendary skin and weapon skin for each of those five units, which is ultimately 800 cheaper than purchasing each Unit individually.
Gundam Evolution has a vast number of units and customization options for players to purchase. However, it winds up stingy in how it doles out only a little of its non-premium currency over time. Of course, the argument can be made that, as a free-to-play game, it needs to make money somewhere. But this still leaves the journey to unlocking all units a long and tiring trial for players to get through.
