The Grand Ole Opry is addressing backlash over Elle King’s recent performance.
On Friday night (January 19), the 34-year-old singer took the stage at the Ryman Auditorium for a performance during a tribute to Dolly Parton in honor of her 78th birthday.
While on stage, Elle apparently talked nonsense and forgot the lyrics to Dolly’s song “Marry Me,” and also admitted that she was disabled.
“I don’t know the words to these things in this damn city,” Elle sang, as seen on TikToks. “Don’t tell Dolly because it’s her birthday.”

After the song, Elle said: “Everyone says, holy shit, we bought tickets to this shit. I’m not even going to lie. My God. I’m not even going to lie. Did you guys buy tickets to this sh*t? “You won’t get your money back.”
“I’ll tell you one more thing. Hi, my name is Elle King and I’m fucking screwed,” Elle also said.
According to a TikTok user on the show, Elle swore on stage “about 15 times” before the venue “closed the curtain.”
After the performance, one fan in attendance took to Twitter to criticize Elle, saying she “ruined the night with her horrible, drunken, profane performance. Dolly Parton would have been mortified. For our first time at The Opry, it was a shame that we all had to witness that.”
The Grand Ole Opry then responded to the fan to apologize.
“We deeply regret and apologize for the language used during the Opry’s second performance last night,” the Opry wrote.
So far, Elle has yet to publicly address the situation.
A few months ago, Elle responded to speculation that she was taking a weight-loss drug.
