Govind Singh Dotasra holds the position of the president of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee. His extensive experience in politics includes serving as the vice president of the same committee from 2014 to 2020. In addition, Dotasra has contributed significantly to the District Congress Committee, Sikar, where he held the presidency for seven years, from July 2011 to May 2018. His notable accomplishments also include being appointed as the chairman of the media and communication committee in advance of the 2018 Rajasthan polls, on 5 October 2018.

Govind Singh Dotasra was born on Thursday, 1 October 1964 (age 59; as of 2023) in the village of Kripa Ram Ji ki Dhani, Sutod, Laxmangarh in Sikar District of Rajasthan. His zodiac sign is Libra. Govind’s schooling took place in the native village and after that, he completed his B.Com. from Rajasthan University then followed up with a B.Ed. from  Maharshi Dayanand University Rohtak Haryana and an LL.B. degree at the University of Rajasthan. After graduation, he practised law in the Sikar Court for almost 20 years.

Career

Political Career

Dotasra was elected as Pradhan of the Laxmangarh Panchayat Samiti in 2005. In 2008, he won the Laxmangarh seat in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly election by a close margin of 34 votes against independent candidate Dinesh Joshi and he has been representing the Laxmangarh constituency of the Sikar district of Rajasthan since 2008. In 2013, he defeated former Union Minister of State and 3-time MP Subhash Maharia by a margin of 10,723 votes. Dotasra has been a member of the Public Accounts Committee of Rajasthan Assembly 2015–16. In the Assembly, he has raised issues related to farmers and weaker sections of society. He won the 2018 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly election with the highest margin of votes in the Sikar district and was appointed Minister of State for primary and secondary education (Independent Charge), Tourism and Devasthan in the 2018 Government of Rajasthan. Later on 20 November 2021, he resigned from his ministry post respecting the Party’s one man one post policy. He is a member of the 15th Rajasthan Legislative Assembly and a former chief whip of the Indian National Congress party in that Assembly. He has been a member of the INC since 1981.

RAS Exam Controversy

There were accusations made against Govind Singh Dotasra after his three relatives, all received the same marks in the Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) exam. The RAS exam is conducted by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission and is aimed at recruiting candidates for state and subordinate services in Rajasthan. Specifically, Govind’s daughter-in-law, her brother, and her sister all scored 80 out of 100 during the interview round, while some top performers in the RAS written exam only received marginal scores. Dotasra denied all accusations and in an interview said,

the examination for selection to RAS is conducted in a transparent manner and only capable candidates succeed in it.”

 

Controversy on recalling male teachers aged below 50 years from all government girls’ schools

In order to prevent harassment of girls in schools, Govind Singh Dotasra decided to recall male teachers who are below the age of 50 from all government girls’ schools. This move was criticized by experts as “regressive” and “immature”. Dotasra had stated that the priority will now be given to female teachers in all-girls schools, and male teachers above the age of 50 will only be deployed if necessary. One of the critics of this decision was Rashmi Jain, the head of the Department of Sociology at Rajasthan University. In an interview she said,

Is the minister saying that harassment cases happen only in girls schools? I feel this is an attempt to create a new cardre of schools which will be run only by females.”

Controversy surrounding sexist comments

In 2021, Dotasra sparked controversy by saying schools with more female staff see more quarrels. The incident took place at an event meant to celebrate International Girl Child Day in Jaipur. Addressing the event, he said the Rajasthan government always ensured the security and comfort of women and gave them preferred postings in jobs. He added,

Govt introduced policy for women. They’re given priority. But female staff have conflicts among themselves. Where there’s female staff, either the Principal or teachers take ‘Saridon’. If you correct these small things [mistakes], you will always find yourselves ahead of men.”

Govind Singh Dotasra landed in controversy over his remark on Mewar warrior Maharana Pratap. Addressing party workers at a district-level training camp in Nagaur he said,
