Gerald Green is an American basketball player who currently plays in the G-League for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Gerald Green is primarily known for his Dunk tricks, as he won the 2005 McDonald’s All-American Slam Dunk Contest and the 2007 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, as well as finishing runner-up in the 2008 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

Early life

Gerald Green was born on January 26, 1986 in Houston, Texas, United States. Also, he is 36 years old. He was born to a mother Brenda Green and a father whose name is also Gerald Green. His father is a professional firefighter. He has 3 siblings, two sisters, Terika Green and Delonya Green, and a brother, Garlon Green, who is also a professional basketball player overseas.

He broke his right ring finger while playing basketball when he was in sixth grade. The accident occurred when he was trying to dunk on the improvised hoop and his finger got caught in the nail, making amputation the only option.

Gerald started playing basketball just his sophomore year of high school. He played on the J. Frank Doble High School junior varsity team. He was excluded from the team due to his academic problems. He soon transferred to a charter school, Gulf Shores Academy, where he repeated his grade. Green was named All-American.

He was also the leading scorer of the McDonald’s All-American Game. He also won the 2005 McDonald’s All-American Slam Dunk Contest defeating Josh Roberts. Green originally committed to Oklahoma State University, but then decided to enter directly into the NBA Draft. He was one of the last players to enter the NBA directly out of high school.

Gerald Green – Professional career

Gerald Green primarily played shooting guard/small forward throughout his career. Green was selected by the Boston Celtics with the 18th pick. He played 2 seasons for Boston before becoming part of the Kevin Garnett trade in 2007. After the trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Green found himself stuck on the bench. He won the 2007 NBA dunk contest. Green requested a trade from the Wolves. He was traded to his hometown team, the Houston Rockets, but the Rockets released him shortly after.

Green also played abroad for teams such as Lokomotiv Kuban, Foshan Dralions and Krasnye Krylia, but returned to the NBA on December 8 when he signed with Los Angeles, but was waived by the Lakers on December 22. He signed with the Los Angeles D-D-Fenders of the NBA Development League. He was awarded NBA D-League All-Star Game Most Valuable Player at the NBA D-League All-Star.

In 2012 he signed a 10-day contract with the New Jersey Nets where his dunk against Houston went viral and is one of the best dunks of all time. Jersey signed him for the rest of the season. He also played for the Miami Heat, Indiana Pacers, and Phoenix Suns before his second season with Boston in 2016. In 2018, Green resigned from Houston and played for 2 seasons.

He retired in October of the 2020-21 season and joined Houston’s coaching staff. Green came out of retirement on January 28 and signed with the G-League team Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Gerald Green is married to Deja Hiott. He has three sons named Jeremiah, Julius and Silas. The youngest of the Silas was born on September 3, 2020 during the global pandemic. He’s not sure if the mother of three is the same or not. He had previous relationships with Dorislyn Martínez.

Deja accused Gerald of abuse and accused him. He is the second cousin of Philadelphia 76aers guard Danny Green. His brother Garlon is also a professional basketball player and plays for CSM Oradea in Romania.
