Who is Sarah Jean?
Originally from Beach City, Texas, Sarah Jean Hartsfield is a former intelligence analyst for the US Army and murder suspect. Hartsfield had been married five times in all by the time she was 48.
She has four children from her third marriage, and they all live with her. David Bragg, Hartsfield’s then fiancé, was fatally shot on May 9, 2018, at their Garfield, Minnesota, home. She explained to investigators at the time that she killed Bragg in self-defence.
According to Douglas County Attorney Chad Larson, “Ms Donohue was justified in shooting Mr Bragg as a matter of self-defence under the circumstances as she was facing lethal force and had no reasonable possibility of retreating from the threat.”
Joseph Hartsfield, the fifth husband of Hartsfield, passed away on January 15, 2023, as a result of ischemic stroke complications. Law enforcement believes that Joseph was poisoned, though, by the former intelligence analyst.

Hartsfield is still being held at the Chambers County Jail with a $5 million bail. Additionally, the inquiry into David Bragg’s fatal shooting was reopened.
In a statement, Bragg’s family said, “Nearly 5 years ago, our family lost a son, a brother, an uncle, and a FATHER.”We were unable to make any progress because we had so little information about his demise. “All we knew was that the David we all knew and loved was not the man who was depicted by his killer.
“His death was extremely arbitrary, and the circumstances surrounding it seemed improbable, almost made up.” We are hopeful that this time, we will be able to have that closure and the assurance that this woman won’t injure anyone again, they continued.
