Gaurav was born and brought up in Mumbai and attended the prestigious Cathedral and John Connon School. He then went to study economics and film-making at Middlebury College in the US.

Gaurav started his career as an ad man at Young & Rubicam Advertising and spent a decade in New York working on brands like Kraft, Sony, Heinz, Taj Hotels, Singapore Tourism, AT&T. He then moved to LVMH and worked with Moët & Hennessy India for a decade leading their Champagne and spirits categories, helping Moët & Chandon and Hennessy become market leaders. They also launched Chandan, a sparkling wine targeting young Indian millennials.
He became head of South Asia for Sotheby’s, one of the world’s most prestigious auction houses, and was the driving force behind their inaugural India auction. Responsible for establishing the business, developing growth strategy, and maintaining the vitality of the business, he provided advice and service to the company’s highest level collectors in a business development capacity.
Named to the Power List of the Luxury Industry, he serves on several industry and non-profit boards, including the Confederation of Indian Industry for Arts and Culture. As part of the first generation of luxury marketers in India, Gaurav stands as an opinion leader and has contributed across sectors including media The New York Times, International Herald Tribune, CNN, Mint, Economic Times, Times of India, The Hindu, Forbes, Vogue And Architectural Digest among others. He lectures on building luxury brands and the ‘art of collecting’.
