Gagan Gowda was born as ‘Gagan Raju Gowda’ on Thursday, 22 May 2003 (age 21 years; as in 2024) in Mangalore, Karnataka. His zodiac sign is Gemini. He completed his schooling from Sri Ramakrishna School, Mangalore. Gagan completed his graduation from Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) College in Ujire, Karnataka. Gagan Gowda started his Kabaddi journey when he was in 8th class. Along with Kabaddi, he also played volleyball but he was more inclined towards Kabaddi.

In 2023, Gagan Gowda was selected by the team ‘Hampi Heroes’ in the Youth Kabaddi Series Summer Edition held in Mysore. He played a total of 23 matches in which he scored 262 runs and made a total of 280 raids, and his raid strike rate was 93.21% and tackle success rate was 16.67%.
After his amazing performance in the Youth Kabaddi series, Gagan was selected by Lucknow-based team ‘UP Yoddha’ for the Season 10 of Pro Kabaddi League 2023, in which Gagan was selected under the New Young Players (NYP) category. His overall raid strike rate in the tournament was 63%.

- He considers Kabaddi players Ajay Thakur and Anup Kumar as his biggest inspirations for their hand touch and bowling skills respectively.
- Initially, Gagan faced difficulty in qualifying for different age categories due to his height and weight. The coach asked him to lose weight which made him more prone to injury as a thin person has less coverage of soft tissues. Due to this reason he missed 2 Junior National Championships.
