Regarding the purpose of the song “Never Need Me,” Rachel explained in a statement: “I made this song with a sense of heartbreak but empowerment. It’s about taking your power back the moment you realize that helping someone is actually hurting you because they’re unwilling to change. Sometimes you end up enabling someone instead of helping them and carrying their burden is difficult. ‘Never Need Me’ is the moment when you wish them well but you can’t keep hurting yourself by helping them. It is always a difficult decision to make, but once you make it, it will surely take a weight off your shoulders.”
Florence explained how her collaboration with Rachel came about.
In a statement, he wrote: “I was recently in Los Angeles and was listening to some of his songs and thought, you know what? I actually went up to this amazing artist and just said, ‘Thank you.’ for making my day today’ and then she responded and she was a fan of hers too and then the idea came up that I was in her music video.”
