Facts/General Knowledge

  • In an interview, Anwar revealed an interesting fact about his entry into the film industry. He said that during the 1980s, popular music director RD Burman was working on a song for one of his films, but was unable to find a suitable lyricist. Coincidentally, he found an interview of Faiz Anwar in a newspaper and decided to contact him. Burman contacted Anwar and invited him to his home. During their meeting, Burman gave Anwar a music tape and asked him to write songs for it. At the same time, Anwar wrote the lyrics of the title track of the film ‘Tum Karo Vaada’ (1993) within 15-20 minutes. RD Burman was extremely impressed with Anwar’s talent and later chose him to write three songs for the film. This was Anwar’s debut film in the film industry. However, the release of the film ‘Tum Karo Vaada’ was postponed and it was released after Anwar’s earlier released song ‘Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahi’ (1991).
  • In an interview, he talked about getting his first film ‘Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi’. He said that when Mahesh Bhatt was working on the film ‘Aashiqui’ (1990) and he had composed the music for the last song of the film. Despite approaching several established lyricists, Mahesh Bhatt was unable to find a suitable lyricist. Then, he turned to Faiz Anwar and requested him to write the lyrics of the song. Anwar wrote the lyrics of the song ‘Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi’ on the spot within 40 minutes. Bhatt was very impressed after listening to the song and he finalized this song as the last song of the film ‘Aashiqui’. However, due to some reason this song was removed from the film. Instead, it became the title track of another film ‘Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi’ (1991).
  • Anwar was inclined towards writing poetry since childhood. He started writing ‘Shayari’ and ‘Ghazals’ at a very young age.
  • In 1999, Sonu Nigam sang songs in the album ‘Deewana’ written by Faiz Anwar. The album proved to be a breakthrough for the singer.

  • Anwar considers contemporary lyrics as non-poetic and non-philosophical. However, in an interview he admitted that he also had to write such songs on the demand of film producers. While talking about this in the interview, he also mentioned his song ‘Chikni Kamar Pe Teri’ which he had written for the film ‘Rowdy Rathore’ (2012). He said,

It is true that its style is not poetic or philosophical, but it has to do with the times.”

  • In an interview he was asked if his songs were ever stolen and he replied that his songs were not; Rather, he sold his songs while facing financial difficulties in his life. He said,

It wasn’t stolen, but I sold my songs and sold them for a very good price. For one song I charged the equivalent of ten songs. If you ask for whom I did it, I won’t tell. I needed money and I cannot say that my helplessness was taken advantage of. I have no complaints.”
