Tatyana Ali is an American actress who became famous for playing the role of Ashley Banks in The prince of Bel Air. Ali played a recurring role on Sesame Street from 1985 to 1990 before joining the cast of the fresh prince. Will Smith noted Tatyana’s musical prowess and asked if he would consider pursuing a musical career.

Tatyana was born on January 24, 1979 to Sheriff and Sonia Ali. She describes her parents as people who taught her to be considerate and respectful of herself and others. However, she told him Parents that Sheriff and Sonia had different parenting approaches:

“I’m more relaxed than I thought I would be. My dad was like that with me and my two sisters. Even though my mom was stricter, she said, ‘If you teach them everything they need to know, they’ll be prepared and figure things out.’

Tatyana’s mother is a Panamanian Catholic, while her father is a Muslim from Trinidad. Sheriff and Sonia did not try to force any religion on their children. Instead, they allow them to choose their spiritual paths. Tatyana and her husband, Vaughn Rasberry, want her children to have the same option. She said Parents:

“I grew up thinking that there are many ways to have a relationship with God, and that you can choose what works for you… Anytime I want to go to church and take Edward, I will. My sister’s husband is Jewish, and if she wants to take him to the temple, that’s fine. I hope he is as open as I am and makes his own decisions.”
