Sex Education star Emma Mackey recently shared about fans comparing her to Margot Robbie. In an interview with Total Film on Wednesday, September 14, Mackey admitted that while she doesn’t mind the similarities, she wants to “get over it. She stated:
“I don’t mind. Margot Robbie is calling. Are you serious? She is second to none. I really admire her. I don’t mind the similarities. However, it would be nice to start at there.”

Emma Mackey discussed fans comparing her looks to Margot Robbie’s during an interview with Total Film on September 14. She said (via GamesRadar+) that the resemblance is “sad” laugh” and is a “joke”. “It’s just fun. And I believe Margot has the grace and the intelligence to play that, for me to be in the same picture as her – bless her. In fact, it was just a joke. “We don’t look alike,” I thought.
Some fans were thrilled when it was announced earlier this year that Mackey had joined the cast of Margot Robbie’s Barbie. Since then, many people have compared the looks of the two actresses on social networks. Mackey briefly mentioned Barbie’s tone in an interview with Total Picture, calling it a “surprise”, but didn’t reveal too many details about the highly-anticipated film. She said (via GamesRadar+):
“It’s quite unique. It’s one of the best scripts we’ve ever read. In many ways, it’s shocking. I believe people will have a concept of the movie, and I don’t believe this will be it. It will be a surprise.”
She added that the film is a comedy and there will be no crying scenes:
“No sobbing! It’s great to show pure humour, especially American comedy. And I got to work with great heroes.”
In the interview, she also mentioned her desire to collaborate with Greta Girwig, the author of the Barbie movie. She calls Girwig her “hero” and expresses her admiration.

Gerwig has directed many critically acclaimed films including Lady Bird, Frances Ha and Little Women.
Details about Emma Mackey’s role in the film are currently unknown, although based on sources, she will play an important role. Mackey was last seen in Kenneth Branagh’s blockbuster Death on the Nile. Last year, she appeared in the romantic film Eiffel. She also played Emily in Emily, a biopic based on the life of the famous British writer Emily Brontë.
