Elon Musk’s X, formerly known as Twitter, could go behind a paywall for all users. Here’s everything you need to know!

Elon Musk spoke with Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister. In that conversation, he mentioned that the only remaining way to combat bots is to add a payment system to the platform.

“We are moving to a small monthly payment to use the system,” the billionaire said.

The head of SpaceX and Tesla has always said that the real solution to weeding out fake accounts and bots on Xu, formerly Twitter, is to start asking for verification. Ever since the man took over Twitter, he’s been constantly trying to encourage users to pay for a better service, which is currently known as X Premium.

Through the trial, paid subscribers were provided with additional features, such as enhanced visibility and longer posts on the social media platform.

However, this does not mean that users do not have the opportunity to use the platform for free.

While it can be assumed that the motive behind placing the platform behind a paywall can be clearly indicated by the financial interests of the platform, Elon Musk clears the air by saying that the motive is to get rid of bots.

He expresses this by saying, “A bot costs a fraction of a penny.” However, “if someone even has to pay a few dollars or so, some small amount, the actual cost for bots is very high,” he further added.

Costs

X Premium is currently priced at $8 (£6.50) in the United States. The price varies from country to country.

Musk went on to say that he is currently finding cheaper options for customers.

“We’re actually going to come up with lower prices. So we just want it to be just a small amount of money,” Musk said.

“This is a longer discussion, but in my opinion, this is really the only defense against massive bot armies,” he added further.

Rizik, however, says that putting the platform behind a paywall could actually lead to the loss of a significant number of its users. This could further lead to a decline in advertising revenue, which actually currently accounts for a large portion of the company’s revenue.

In Musk’s conversation with the Prime Minister of Israel, anti-Semitism was also discussed on the platform.

Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has been accused of not doing enough to stop anti-Semitic content. It was the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) that accused the platform.

Earlier this month, he expressed that X would be suing the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) to effectively “clear the platform’s name.”

Elon Musk reiterated in his conversation with Mr. Netanyahu that he is “against anti-Semitism.”

Of this, Mr. Netanyahu said: “I hope that within the bounds of the First Amendment you will find the ability to stop not only anti-Semitism … but any collective hatred of people that anti-Semitism represents.”

“I know you’re committed to it,” he added.
