Who is Arjun Ram Meghwal, the new Law Minister of India after Kiren Rijiju?
In a sensational decision, the Modi government fired Kiren Rijiju from his position as Union Minister of Justice and Law and replaced him with Arjun Ram Meghwal. Rijiju heads the code from 2021. The outspoken member of the BJP has recently been criticized by both the opposition and his party for his comments on the judiciary.

Arjun Ram Meghwal Early Life
- Arjun Ram Meghwal was born Lakhu Ram Meghwal and Hira Devi on December 20, 1953 in the village of Kishmidesar in Bikaner, Rajasthan.
- He is highly educated and holds an LLB, Master of Arts and MBA from Dungar College, Bikaner and University of the Philippines.
- In 1982, Meghwal passed the RAS exam and was elected to Rajasthan Udyog Seva. He was appointed as Assistant Manager at Jila Udhyog Kendra and served as General Manager of Jila Udhyog Kendra in Shriganganagar, Dhaulpur, Rajsamvad, Jhunjhnu, Jaipur and Alwar districts of Rajasthan.
- He was appointed as Special Operations Officer to Mr. Hari Shankar Bhabra, Deputy Minister of Rajasthan in 1994.
- Meghwal was promoted to IAS officer during Rajasthan in 1999 and held several administrative positions: Deputy Secretary, Technical Education; Special Secretary, Higher Education; Managing Director, Rajasthan Laghu Udhyog Nigam Limited; Additional Commissioners; Commercial Tax Department; District Collector and District Judge, Churu.
Arjun Ram Meghwal’s political career
- Arjun Ram Meghwal found his calling in the political sphere and voluntarily retired from public service.
- His political career took off in 2009 when he was elected as an MP from the Bikaner constituency in Rajasthan, representing the Bhartiya Janata Party.
- He was re-elected from Bikaner constituency in the 2014 Lok Sabha election.
- He briefly held the positions of State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science and Economy.
- In 2019, Meghwal was inducted into the cabinet of Narendra Modi as Minister for Parliamentary Affairs in the Ministry of Security and Minister of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprise in the Ministry of Security.
- From 18 May 2023, he assumed the position of Union Minister of Law and Justice, replacing Kiren Rijiju.
- Arjun Ram Meghwal is also an educator, farmer and social worker in addition to being a politician.
