Ellora Patnaik is a Canadian Odissi artist working in film, theater and television. Patnaik has been practicing Odissi since the mid-1980s. In the mid-1990s, she became the director of Chitralekha Dance Academy.

Biography of Ellora Patnaik
She was born the first child of her parents, Promoda and Chitralekha Patnaik, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada; she is seven years older than her brother Devraj Patnaik. Her parents were born in the Indian state of Orissa (now Odisha) and moved to Canada in the 1960s. As a child, Patnaik often traveled with her family to India. Her parents immediately moved to Oakville, Ontario, and she attended MM Robinson High School in Burlington, Ontario. Chosen in 1986 by the late Padma Vibhushan Kelucharan Mohapatra, she studied at the Odissi Research Center in Orissa, India.
Career
Patnaik’s original dance teacher was her mother, who began teaching her as an Odissi dancer at an early age. She also received guidance from such prominent figures as (the late) Padmashri Pankaj Padmabibhusan Kelucharan Mohapatra, Padmashri Sanjukta Panigrahi and Padmashri Gangadhar Pradhan among those honored.
She studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts from 1992 to 1994 and was a member of the troupe in her third year. She played Jyoti Mehta, Indie Mehta’s mother, in the Canadian television series How to Be Indie on YTV in 2009 and returned for a second season in 2010.
Ellora has played various roles in films. The movie “My Own Country” starring Rajani Verghese. She played the role of Girl on the Bus in the TV series “Riding the Bus with My Sister”. She played the role of Kim in the movie “Extremely Close for Christman”.
