Elliot Page addresses the debate surrounding gender-differentiated acting categories at awards shows.
For some time there has been talk of getting rid of gender-separated categories at awards shows like the Oscar awards to make the categories more inclusive for non-binary actors.
While promoting his new movie. Near you in it Toronto International Film Festival 2023The 36-year-old Oscar-nominated actor, who came out as transgender in 2020, was asked if he thinks Oscar awards should make acting categories gender neutral.

“Yeah, that sounds like a good idea,” Elliot said. Entertainment Weekly. “And again, this kind of unusual aspect of it being the only category, right, where that happens?”
“So hopefully we’ll start to move beyond that degree of binary thinking,” Elliot added.
Elliot is not the first star to speak out in favor of gender-neutral acting categories.
