I met a yoga instructor for the first time four months ago while I was waiting for the course to start. I can tell you it would be great if someone captured that moment with a picture of my face. “Ma’am, you need to stop smoking the incense you always burn here,” I wanted to comment. I don’t know what she means. I was completely shocked. I was very angry during the lesson and even more angry the next moment, but I persisted.

In Oxford, Mississippi, where I currently live, I was in a sports bar four weeks ago. The Rebels game in Omaha that ended the Ole Miss baseball season was awesome. In the middle of the match, I felt a big lump when I scratched my breast. My companion, Machelle, was forced to go to the toilet to experience this. I will never forget what she looked like. She was extremely scared.

The following Monday morning, Machelle met me at my gynecologist’s office. My doctor, Julie, examined me as soon as we entered the room. Her face showed an extremely worried expression. The woman said it had been two years, not eight months, since Elizabeth had her mammogram.
