An Elden Ring player recently recreated Ciri from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt using the game’s robust character creation tools. FromSoftware and legendary A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R Martin’s high-fantasy RPG has earned critical acclaim in the days since its long-awaited launch late last week, with players praising Elden Ring’s deep lore and new tweaks to FromSoftware’s usually punishing Dark Souls gameplay formula. In fact, an Elden Ring Twitch stream became the third-highest viewed feed of all time less than a day after the game was released. Elden Ring puts players in the role of a Tarnished, an exile cast out from the Lands Between who must travel the world in search of the lost runes of the titular Elden Ring in order to become the Elden Lord.
Like many RPGs, Elden Ring allows players to customize their own Tarnished using an in-depth customization suite that offers up to five different character classes and various options to craft their hero into a melee-focused Warrior or a magical Astrologer. Fans have used these tools to create versions of existing characters like Ross Gellar from Friends, a medieval-style version of Venom Snake from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and players have even brought a TMNT character to Elden Ring. Not every fictional character has translated well into Elden Ring’s surprisingly powerful character creation menu, but it seems fans can make virtually anyone they can think of.
YouTuber Tony Li recently posted a video showing off their custom-made Elden Ring version of Ciri from The Witcher 3, detailing how they used the game’s character creator to capture the look of Geralt’s apprentice – including her pale skin, green eyes, and silver-white hair. From there, Ciri enters the world of Elden Ring with a club in her hand, ready to take down any foe that comes into her path. Tony Li would also post a screenshot of their Elden Ring Ciri Tarnished to the Elden Ring subreddit under the username Createdtotelltruth, where they received some positive feedback for recreating Ciri almost perfectly.
Others have noted that Ciri would be right at home in the dark fantasy world of Elden Ring, given that she’s been a part of the equally grim universe of The Witcher since author Andrzej Sapkowski’s first Witcher novel. Although she was merely mentioned by other characters in both the original Witcher game and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, she would make her first physical appearance in 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Before that game’s events, she was originally the sole princess of the Northern Kingdom of Cintra, until she was taken in by Geralt Of Rivia to be trained as a monster-hunting Witcher.
Ciri’s dimension-hopping powers could provide a fun in-universe reason for why she’s now roaming the world of Elden Ring, and her various Witcher skills would do her well in the quest to become the Elden Lord. Elden Ring has already become one of the biggest games of 2022, as well as one of the most critically acclaimed titles of all time, and part of that appeal seems to be the deep amount of customization options that let players craft their own hero – or just borrow a famous character from an existing game like The Witcher 3.
