After entering a guilty plea last week, one of the three men accused of killing Egypt Covington is now qualified to testify for the prosecution. According to Covington’s brother D’Wayne Turner, “This sets the stage for the prosecution of the other two more violent suspects.”
In connection with Covington’s 2017 shooting death inside of her Van Buren Township duplex, Shane Lamar Evans entered a plea of guilty to second-degree murder. As a result, the charges of felony murder and first-degree home invasion were dropped. When Evans is sentenced on May 4, he might spend 15–25 years in prison.
Lindsay Turner stated, “He will testify against his cousin and his brother.”Lindsay is referring to the men accused of killing Covington, Timothy Eugene Moore and Shandon Ray Groom. Later this year, a trial will be held.
According to Evans’ testimony, the men intended to break into Covington’s neighbour’s side of the duplex in order to obtain marijuana. Evans stated that he indicated which door to break through before leaving. He didn’t discover that Moore and Groom had entered the incorrect side until the next day.
