Ed Snider was the president of Comcast Spectacor, a Philadelphia-based sports and entertainment company that owned the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League. He previously owned the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association and was a minority owner of the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League.

Career and professional life
In the 1960s, Ed Snider co-founded Edge Ltd. with his friend Jerry Lilienfield, which was moderately successful. They eventually closed the company, allowing Snider to join Jerry Wolman (a builder) and his brother-in-law’s lawyer, Earl Foreman, in purchasing the Philadelphia Eagles in 1964.
Snider was given the option to purchase a 7% stake in the team and eventually served as vice president and treasurer, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Eagles. Similarly, the NHL granted Philadelphia a conditional franchise on February 8, 1966, which would eventually be called the Philadelphia Flyers and begin play in 1967.
Snider and Wolman ended their business partnership and exchanged some of their assets in the summer of 1967. Snider took over as majority owner of the Flyers and Wolman took over as sole owner of Spectrum.
During his career, Snider founded or acquired several companies, notably PRISM, a regional premium cable channel, and WIP, the first all-sports radio station. Despite a protracted battle with 76ers owner Harold Katz, the city of Philadelphia and the city of Camden, New Jersey, Snider privately financed a new stadium to keep the Flyers and 76ers in Philadelphia, the CoreStates Center (now the Wells Fargo Center).
Snider later became a major investor in a Foxwoods slot casino proposed for Philadelphia’s waterfront in 2005. Faced with massive opposition at the original proposed location, supporters of the slot casino decided to seek a new location in the area. from the city center, next to Philadelphia’s Chinatown. community, in September 2008.
