Ed Sheeran had to miss his grandmother’s funeral due to a copyright lawsuit in New York

Ed Sheeran is still attending his ongoing copyright trial in New York City, even if it meant he had to miss his late grandmother’s funeral.

The father of “Shape of You” singer John Sheeran, 32, addressed his son’s absence from Anne “Nancy” Sheeran’s funeral during the memorial service on Wednesday (May 3) in Ireland.

“I am very sad that our son Edward cannot be here today. He is so upset that he cannot be present; “He has to be thousands of miles away in a court in the United States defending his integrity,” he said excitedly via the Daily Mail.

“I know you are comforted by the fact that you were able to spend some precious time alone with your grandmother just a month ago.”

Ed is fighting a copyright infringement lawsuit for allegedly copying parts of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” for his 2014 song “Thinking Out Loud.”

At the same time, Ed Sheeran opened up about his wife’s cancer diagnosis in his new documentary series.
