E. Ramadoss was an Indian director, writer and actor who worked predominantly in the Tamil film industry. He came into limelight after appearing in the Tamil film Vikram Vedha, in which he played the role of Velraj.

E. Ramadoss was born in the year 1957 (age 66 years at the time of death) in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu. Soon after completing his schooling, he joined Islamia College, Vaniyambadi, Tamil Nadu. According to Ramdas, he was fond of watching films since childhood. After completing his post-graduation degree, he moved to Chennai to pursue a career in Tamil films. While talking about his career in films in an interview, he said that his friends and school teacher had suggested him to make a career in films. Ramdas said,
When you see a girl while studying in school, you feel attracted to her. That’s how it came to me. I wrote a letter and sent it to the school. I don’t know whether it goes to the headmaster or not. Shouldn’t I be one of those books you keep close to your chest?’ That book written by me went to the headmaster. He called me and appreciated me for the lines. When I shared this with my friends they said, ‘It’s good…you should try cinema.’

As a screenwriter
Soon after relocating to Chennai, Ramadoss began his career in screenwriting, and the first film he worked on was Enakkaga Kathiru (1981), a Tamil film starring Suman and Sumalatha. Subsequently, in the late 1990s, Ramadoss worked as a writer for several Tamil films such as Raja Muthirai (1995), Dhinnum Ennai Gaavani (1997), Harikrishnan and Anthapuram (1999).

In 1986, he made his directorial debut with the Tamil film Aayiram Pookkal Malarattam. Subsequently, Ramadoss has worked as a director in several Tamil films such as Raavanan (1986), Vaazhaga Jananayagam (1996), and Suyamvaram (1999). In an interview, Ramdas talked about his career as a director and how he got the opportunity to direct films. He said,
I did not ask for a job from Manivannan. The towers do not tilt but dip. Manopala went to meet him. I also went. I used to go and sit and improve. Manivannan was looking at me like ‘Yaara…Ivan’. Manivannan allowed me as someone who respects it because I am an educated person,’ Manobala said, adding, ‘This is our fear.’ That’s how I connected with them.”

Ramdas started his career in acting in 2004. In 2004, he worked in the Tamil film Vasool Raja MBBS in which he played a small role of a ward boy.
He has worked in several Tamil films such as Kukku (2014), Thappu Thanda (2017), Goli Soda 2 (2018) and Boomerang (2019).
Death
On 23 January 2023, Ramadoss died of heart failure at a private hospital in Chennai.
Facts/General Knowledge
- Ramdoss was famous for playing police roles in many Tamil films. He has appeared in the roles of a police officer in Yuddham Sei (2011), Kakki Sattai (2015), Visaranai (2016), Dharma Durai (2016) and Vikram Vedha (2017) in his other Tamil films.
- In an interview, Ramadoss talked about his love for poetry and said that while pursuing his master’s degree at Islamia College, Vaniyambadi, Tamil Nadu, he would often recite poems at various cultural events in his college. Discussing this, Ramdoos said,
After this I went to Kaviko College. Poets come, sit with him, listen, watch and fall in love with writing. I completed my degree and directly joined cinema. Don’t know anyone here. Well, I decided we’d direct it ourselves. “You have to go from being an assistant to being a director,” Manofala said. I said to Manobala, ‘Okay, add someone to it.’
- Before making her acting debut in the Tamil film Vasool Raja MBBS (2004), she played an unknown role in the Tamil language film Noorvathu Naal (1984).
