Noted CNN investigative journalist Drew Griffin died in Atlanta on December 17, 2022. Griffin led the famed investigative team that shed light on veteran deaths caused by their mistreatment at Veterans Affairs hospital. While accepting a Peabody Award for spearheading the investigation, Griffin said:
“Our goal in this report was not just to shed light on this issue. We wanted to effect change, hold these politicians and bureaucrats accountable.”
Griffin influenced many changes through his journalism. For example, Uber introduced security features to its app and changed its background check policy thanks to Drew’s reporting of numerous sexual assault allegations against Uber drivers.
Drew loved to travel with his wife, Margot Griffin, and their three children.
Drew Griffin was married to Margot Griffin. The couple shared three sons, Ele Gast, Louis, and Miles Griffin, who are named after jazz greats.
When he took a break from work, Drew enjoyed traveling with his family, playing the trumpet, or enjoying golf with friends. Griffin leaves behind his wife, his children, his brothers Michael and Peter, and two grandchildren.
Condolence messages consoling the family and praising Drew’s work have flooded social media. Poppy Harlow, Drew’s colleague at CNNtweeted:
“We lost a dear colleague. Drew Griffin embodied everything that makes a journalist great. He was tenacious, curious, honest, dedicated, and kind. He was admired by all of us @cnn. To his wife Margot and his 3 children, I am so sorry for his loss. We will always remember”.
