After completing his post-graduation, he started working as an Assistant Professor at MS Ramaiah Medical College, Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Death
On 28 January 2022, she was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her apartment. She was living in the Legacy Caldera apartment building in Bengaluru, Karnataka with her husband, Neeraj, and child. Reportedly, she was suffering from postpartum depression. According to local police,
The incident came to light around 10.30 am when the maid and the nanny repeatedly knocked on the bedroom door and alerted the apartment security personnel when there was no response. After unsuccessfully trying to break the door, the security personnel went to the balcony of the adjacent bedroom and peeped inside through the window. Immediately, Nani called Dr. Neeraj, who left home for the hospital at around 8.30 in the morning. Before Neeraj reached the flat, the security guard and others had broken down the door and were preparing to shift Soundarya to a nearby private hospital. At the private hospital, after doctors made several attempts to restore Soundarya’s breathing, Soundarya was declared dead and the body was shifted to Bowring Hospital for autopsy.
Her last rites were performed at her husband’s farmhouse in Ebbigere, Bengaluru. The then Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi condoled his demise. The then Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai also expressed grief over his demise. He said,
She was a bright student and a very polite person. She was warm and gentle with her coworkers. Dr. Neeraj is also known as a humble person.
