Dolly Parton breaks silence on Elle King’s allegedly drunk tribute

There are no hard feelings here! Dolly Parton defends Elle King weeks after the fellow country music hitmaker received backlash for a drunken performance by Marry me at the Grand Ole Opry last month.

While celebrating Parton’s 78th birthday at the Grand Ole Opry, fans of the country legend witnessed a not-so-great performance by King, who appeared to be drunk. “You won’t get your money back,” King stated with notable insult. I’ll tell you one more thing. Hi, my name is Elle King, I’m fucking screwed.”

Elle King later said that while she could barely play someone else’s song, she was trying to see if she could play one of her own. However, she eventually destroys Parton’s handwriting. Marry me. “I don’t give how…” he declared later.

Of course, the performance easily went viral and country music fans were quick to respond. “I love Elle King, but this is NOT it,” one fan commented. Another stated that Elle King showed a lack of respect not only towards Dolly Parton but also towards the Ryman Auditorium. “She seems like she stays drunk a lot,” noted another fan.

Parton’s sister also spoke out about the situation, claiming that King admitted she was drunk during the performance. “She admitted to being ‘beaten’ by her word, not mine.”

However, Dolly Parton has nothing negativity about Elle King’s less-than-stellar performance.

During an interview with Extra, Parton stated: “Elle is a really great artist, she is a great girl. She has been going through a lot lately.”

Dolly Parton pointed out that Elle King drank too much during the performance. “So let’s forgive that, let’s forget about it and move on,” Parton said. “Because she felt worse than anyone else.”

Before singing Dolly Parton’s ‘Marry Me’, Elle King talked about acting drunk

During a 2022 interview with the san diego grandstand, Elle King talked about not wanting to be as drunk as she used to be while performing on stage.

“It’s easier for me to say, ‘Yes, I want to drink and have fun and [then] come on stage,’” he said at the time. “I get nervous before going on stage, [so] I have a couple of drinks [first].”

“Drinking makes me less nervous about hitting the notes when I sing. If I don’t do them, he won’t itch me as much.”

King went on to add that being a mother to her son, Lucky Levi, comes “way, way, way” above having a good time.
