Charlie Hunnam reveals he was offered the role of DC’s Green Arrow

Charlie Hunnam has long been a fan of DC superhero Green Arrow. In the comics, the hero has a similar appearance to Hunnam, and it’s easy to imagine the actor adopting the superhero’s wry humor.

However, fans didn’t know that was almost a reality. In an interview with Comic Book, Hunnam revealed that he almost played the hero. An executive offered Hunnam the job.

However, he never spoke to director Zack Snyder about playing the character. Hunnam turned down the chance to play Green Arrow.

“I never spoke to Zack [Snyder] about it,” Hunnam said. “Honestly, I don’t remember who. It was some people in suits who brought me the idea. And I thought it would be tremendously exciting for me to play Green Arrow. And I did not share his enthusiasm.”

It is not known exactly when the executive approached Hunnam. Snyder was in charge of developing the DCEU universe on screen. However, the franchise has since undergone a creative reboot under the direction of director James Gunn.

Gunn doesn’t follow through with many members of the universe’s old guard. Instead, the director is primarily looking for new actors for the DCU, with a few exceptions. However, Hunnam won’t be joining the Justice League anytime soon.

“I don’t know who Green Arrow is, so I don’t want to offend anyone,” Hunnam said. He didn’t like the costume. “I looked at a photo and thought, ‘I’m not sure green is my color and I’m pretty sure spandex is not my material.’ Beyond that, I thought of an image: ‘Thank you, I’m not interested.’”

Stephen Amell played the most popular version of Green Arrow on the television show. Arrow. However, it is unlikely that she will reprise his role on the big screen. In an interview with Movie Web, Amell shared his thoughts on the eventual recast.

“I am custodian of Oliver Queen and [Grant Gustin] “He’s Barry Allen’s custodian in the same way that… look, I don’t think anyone is asking Tom Welling how he feels about who’s playing the new Superman,” he said. “Now I understand proximity and things like that, but there will be another Oliver Queen. He will be and he will be new and cool and exciting, and as much as the Internet hates him, that is probably a direct indication of how good he will be.”
