Disney Recasts David Actor for ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Live-Action Remake After Racial Slur Controversy

Kahiau Machado, the actor who was previously announced to be playing David in the upcoming live-action remake of Disney’s Lilo & Stitch, has reportedly been replaced.

Newcomer Kaipo Dudoit will now be playing the role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In the days following the news of Kahiau‘s casting, a controversy brewed that ultimately led to the role being recast.

It was discovered by fans on social media that Kahiau had used a racial slur while making a playlist on his public Spotify account. THR reports that Disney’s vetting process uncovered the use of the slur, which seemingly led to him being dropped from the project.

Disney never confirmed Kahiau‘s casting and now Kaipo is getting the role.
