Dick Butkus dead: NFL legend dies at home at age 80

NFL legend Dick Butkus has sadly passed away.

The former Chicago Bears linebacker passed away at his Malibu home on Thursday (Oct. 5), the Chicago Grandstand reports. She was 80 years old.

According to his family, Dick spent the night peacefully sleeping.

He is best known for playing for the Chicago Bears for eight seasons, from 1965 to 1973, before pursuing a career as a sportscaster and actor.

Dick has had roles in films such as The longest yard, Gremlins 2: the new batch, Laughing out loud, Superdome and more, with appearances on television shows in MacGyver, Sleep time, Blue Thunder and even Murder, she wrote.

In 1963, he married his high school sweetheart Helen Essenberg and the two had three children, Ricky, Matt and Nikki.
