Dhanalakshmi Shekhar was born on Friday, 5 June 1998 (age 24 years; as of 2022) in Gundur, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. His zodiac sign is Gemini. He studied at Abbott Marcel RC Higher Secondary School, Sembattu, Tiruchirappalli. Later, he joined Alva’s College in Moodbidri, Karnataka and did a Diploma in Arts. He started training in athletics during his college when Tamil Nadu sprinter Manikandan Arunmugam, who was impressed by his natural speed, convinced him that he could get a government job after getting a medal in sports. She competes in the 100 metres, 200 meters and relay events. He started competing in athletic championships in 2017 and in 2018, he finished third in the 100 m and 200 m at the 2018 Tamil Nadu State Championships. In 2019, he represented India at the 2019 Summer Universiade held in Naples, Italy. She won several medals at the athletic championships and qualified for the mixed 4 X 400 meters relay event of the 2020 Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan; However, he was not selected for the team. Banned for three years after testing positive for steroids

On 11 July 2022, he was banned for three years from participating in any tournament by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for failing an out-of-competition dope test. A sample was taken on 1 May 2022 in Antalya, Turkey where she was training. She tested positive for metandienone, a banned substance under the ‘anabolic androgenic steroids’ category. Initially, he was banned for four years; However, he confessed to doping after which the sentence was reduced by one year. Following this, she was left out of selection for the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham.
