Destiny 2 Image Could Be Teasing a Halo Crossover, Players Speculate

Players of Destiny 2 are speculating that recently-released images for the game could be teasing a crossover with HaloDestiny 2 developer Bungie is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and the studio has announced a 30th Anniversary Pack for the game and confirmed some of the content it will include, though it seems the team may still be keeping some of its celebrations under wraps.

Honoring 30 years of Bungie, the upcoming Anniversary Pack is set to include the return of the Destiny 2 Gjallarhorn rocket launcher, a new dungeon, and more content inspired by Bungie’s previous games across the past three decades. Additional items include an armor set inspired by Marathon, and a claymore from the Myth series. The update that will be releasing alongside the new DLC is also expected to be Destiny 2’s biggest balance patch ever, with Bungie announcing that it will be introducing a major rebalancing of Guardian abilities to make them not only more varied and unique, but also to provide more distinction between their effects in PvE and PvP modes.

The Steam listing for the Destiny 2 Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack (via Polygon) has some fans believing even more content could be included, in the form of a crossover with Halo. The Steam page includes several images previewing some of the content Bungie has already announced for the new DLC, however, some of the elements in the pictures also hint at a potential Master Chief crossover. One of the images shows what appears to be two weapons from the Halo series: the massively popular Battle Rifle and a Covenant-type weapon. The new 30th Anniversary streetwear-inspired ornament set also features what appear to be influences from Halo. Needler needles can be seen on the Titan set shoulder pad, and the Warlock set looks to be inspired by the Arbiters.

The potential Halo crossover was already previously hinted at in a leak from several months ago that claimed that Bungie’s 30th-anniversary celebration would indeed introduce Halo-inspired content to Destiny 2. The rumor might not be too outlandish, as Bungie developed the earlier Halo games. However, since leaving Microsoft’s umbrella more than a decade ago, the developer hasn’t been associated with the IP for a long time. It’s unclear whether the visual similarities between the upcoming Destiny 2 cosmetics and Halo are an official crossover or just a nod for fans of the Xbox series. With the release of the DLC only a few days away and no official announcement yet shared, it’s possible that the latter will be the case.

Whatever the outcome, anything Halo-inspired in Destiny 2 will definitely be exciting for long-time Bungie fans, whether it be an official tie-in or simply cosmetic Easter eggs. There’s also a lot of other content for players to experience with the new Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack, with much of it still not officially detailed. The pack is set to launch next week on December 7, meaning fans will only have to wait just a few more days until the release of one of the biggest content and balance updates for Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Google Stadia and PC.
