On April 24, 2010, he made his World Extreme Cagefighting debut at bantamweight against Brad Pickett. So, he went to WEC 48 in Sacramento, California.
He was unable to defend the numerous takedowns executed by Pickett even though Johnson displayed good kickboxing. Joe Rogan made the prediction that the WEC should implement a flyweight division.
On September 30, 2010, he was expected to face Clint Godfrey at WEC 51. Godfrey was therefore booted from the card and replaced by WEC newcomer Nick Pace.
