Celebrity hair stylist and her instructor in hairstyling course ‘Jasbir Arora’ was impressed by her work and asked her to work as his assistant. When Darshan was in the third month of his course, Jasbir offered him a job in one of his salons in Indore. During an interview, Darshan shared his ordeal and said,
Salary was ₹3500! I was 16 years old. I had just passed 12th! But I got bored of that job and came back to Pune. One day I got a call from one of my seniors, who casually invited me to come to Mumbai, where I had got a job in a good salon and was working on the shooting of a Bollywood film. The word ‘shoot’ piqued my interest. My connection to the world outside my city was through television and films. And he said that he is shooting with Sanjay Dutt. So I reached the sets of Musafir.
He then started working as a hair stylist in 2003 at Hakeem’s Aalim, Versova, Mumbai, Maharashtra. He worked there for about 10 years and after leaving the job, he established ‘D Shave’, a barber shop in Mumbai. Then he got an offer to work with Indian actor Salman Khan and after working with him for about five years, he left the job. During an interview, she told that her life was not easy after leaving work with Salman. He said,
I went through a very bad phase after leaving my brother, where nothing really worked. I started a salon which I had to close within a year. I was 22 years old then. I had no money, I was living in a chawl and had to remain hungry most of the days. But going back was not an option as I could not go back to them failing. During those four years, before I got into Ram-Leela, I had reached a very low point. I was an ordinary Marathi boy from a small town, I was not fluent in English and people used to make fun of my name.
He then worked as a hair stylist for various Indian actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Saif Ali Khan and Anil Kapoor. He came into limelight after being appointed the hairdresser-in-chief of Ranveer Singh. He has created Ranveer Singh’s look in various Hindi films like ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’ (2013), ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ (2015), ‘Bajirao Mastani’ (2015), and ’83’ (2021). ,
His work in the Hindi film ’83’ was highly appreciated by the industry stalwarts, in which he replicated the look of the great Indian cricketer Kapil Dev on Ranveer Singh. Talking about creating the look in an interview, he said,
The biggest compliment I’ve received from industry veterans is, ‘You did it!’ The whole experience has been overwhelming, to say the least, especially because it’s relatively easy to work from one’s imagination, but replicating something that is part of everyone’s imagination adds extra pressure.
He added,
Being a part of such a huge and historic project was a once in a lifetime opportunity. During our first meeting Kabir sir told me a very simple thing – to repeat ‘The’ Hair. We had to look at a lot of pictures of Kapil sir to get every curl and wave right. We had to go through about four to five look tests to get the perfect ‘Kapil Dev look’. Then there was his classic moustache. I had to be very precise about how much of it to trim, and it really came down to slowly removing each hair strand at a time to make sure we got exactly the right look.
Darshan has also worked for a few TV reality shows as a hair stylist and led a team for the hairdressing competition ‘L’Oréal Color Trophy’.

No one expected such unprecedented times. It was easy initially but I adjusted to the situation and soon got into it. I have been busy with work all my life and especially the last eight years with Ranveer Singh have been full of lots and lots of shooting. So in such a situation I had no break. This gave me time to get comfortable a bit. It has healed my mind and body and given me a chance to reconnect with my loved ones.
