Dan Schneider breaks silence after being accused of abusing Nickelodeon child stars

After the premiere of the ID documentary, Silence on the set: The dark side of children’s television, TV producer Dan Schneider is speaking out after being accused of abusing Nickelodeon child stars.

According to ID, the new documentary reveals “an insidious environment rife with allegations of abuse, sexism, racism and inappropriate dynamics with its underage stars and crew.”

Many of the former child stars spoke about Schneider while being interviewed for the documentary. They claimed that the television producer abused them.

In a statement obtained by Deadline, Dan Schneider responded to the allegations by stating that he expected and asked a lot of his teams. “They worked long hours and consistently put on successful shows. In the challenges of production,” the statement reads. “Dan can get frustrated at times and understands why some employees find him intimidating or stressful.”

The statement further reveals that Schneider has a career spanning more than 30 years. She has worked with thousands of people, many of whom, she claims, still tell her how much they enjoy and appreciate working on her shows. However, he acknowledges that some people who worked with him did not have a positive experience. To which he says that he’s “really sorry.”

“Remember, all storylines, dialogue, costumes and makeup were fully approved by network executives on two coasts,” the statement continued. “A standards and practices group read and ultimately approved each script, and programming executives reviewed and approved all episodes. Plus, every day on every set, there were always parents, caregivers, and friends watching filming and rehearsals. “If there had been scenes or outfits that were inappropriate in any way, they would have been flagged and blocked by this multi-level scrutiny.”

Schneider also claimed that he never acted inappropriately toward those he worked with.

Dan Schneider’s former assistant speaks out about accusations

Along with Dan Schneider’s statement, the producer’s former assistant Amy Berg also issued a statement about what was happening. She had worked with Schneider and Nickelodeon before allegations were made.

“Awww, here goes…” Berg wrote. “So apparently there’s an exhibition going on right now called Silence on set about the toxicity of the Dan Schneider era at Nickelodeon. “I don’t talk much about my time there, but my FIRST job in the city was as Dan’s assistant.”

Berg went on to claim that he worked with Schneider for less than a year. “He left Nickelodeon to create a UPN show while I stayed and became a writer for the final seasons of Kenan and Kel and Everything that under the leadership of extraordinary humans Kevin Kopelow [and] Heath Seifert.

Schneider’s former assistant later explained that during the year she was with him, she was not aware of any physically inappropriate behavior. However, she can confirm that he was a “fucking asshole” and a psychological tormentor.

“He introduced me to panic attacks and stress that worked for him,” she said. “[He] It caused me to develop a major cardiac arrhythmia. I finally had surgery [mostly] correct the problem, but by that time, I had already wasted my 20s. “He stole those years from me.”

While he doesn’t believe his professional path was affected by his time with Schneider, his personal life certainly was. She said she stayed inside for fear of having a medical crisis outside the home. She still suffers from an anxiety disorder due to her previous job.

However, despite his experience, Berg will not see the documentary. “I have no interest in reliving anything,” she added. “I also don’t want to be in a situation where I feel inclined to defend Dan in any way.”
